Srinagar, Oct 15 (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir is likely to receive light to moderate rainfall at many places on Thursday, with light snowfall expected over higher reaches and the possibility of thunderstorms, gusty winds and hailstorms at isolated locations, the Meteorological Centre Srinagar said.
Director of the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, said the weather is expected to remain generally dry on October 16, although brief spells of light rain may occur at isolated to scattered places.
Dry weather conditions are likely to prevail across the Union Territory from October 17 to 24, while generally cloudy conditions, accompanied by light rain at scattered places and light snowfall over higher reaches, are expected between October 25 and 27, he said.
Thunderstorms and gusty winds may also occur at a few places during the latter period, according to the weather advisory.
In view of the forecast for Thursday, the Meteorological Centre has advised farmers to ensure the safe storage of harvested apples, paddy and other crops to minimise potential losses due to adverse weather conditions.
Farmers have been advised to resume harvesting and other agricultural activities from October 16 onwards, subject to prevailing weather conditions.
The weather department has also advised travellers, transporters and the general public to plan their journeys accordingly and follow official traffic advisories, particularly in view of the possibility of light snowfall over important mountain passes, roads and highways.
People travelling through higher-altitude areas have been urged to remain cautious and stay updated on weather and road conditions, the advisory said.—(NVI)
