Jammu, Oct 21 (NVI): Inspector General of Police (IGP) Jammu Zone, Tejinder Singh, on Wednesday said Jammu Police would intensify its crackdown on drug trafficking and strengthen security arrangements across the region, with a focus on visible policing, public safety and maintaining peace and tranquillity.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a Police Commemoration Day event in Jammu, the IGP said the campaign against drugs was continuing unabated and would be intensified further in the coming days.
He said police had recently made additional recoveries as part of the ongoing drive against drug-related activities, adding that further action, including property attachments, would remain a key component of the campaign.
“In the coming days, our campaign against drugs in the Jammu Zone will be intensified further, and it is already progressing in that direction,” he said.
On the security front, Singh said the police would further strengthen the security grid in view of challenges along the borders, the Line of Control (LoC) and the prevailing internal security dynamics.
“From the security perspective, whether it is the border, the Line of Control (LoC), or internal security dynamics, we will further strengthen the security grid and make every possible effort to maintain peace and tranquillity,” he said.
Emphasising the importance of grassroots policing, the IGP said ensuring a visible police presence within the jurisdiction of police stations and other units would remain a key priority.
He said sustained vigilance, stronger security arrangements and effective policing were essential to safeguarding peace and ensuring the safety of people across the Jammu region.
Earlier, Singh took the salute during the Police Commemoration Day event and laid a wreath at the Martyrs’ Memorial in the Rail Head area of Jammu, paying homage to police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
He said the greatest tribute to the sacrifices of police martyrs would be to ensure the safety of police personnel in the future and take every possible measure to prevent such situations from recurring.
The IGP reiterated that Jammu Police would continue working towards strengthening security, intensifying action against drug-related activities and maintaining peace and tranquillity across the region.—(NVI)
