Srinagar, Aug 15 (NVI): Altaf Bukhari, the founding president of the Jammu & Kashmir Apni Party and a former minister in the Government of Jammu & Kashmir, on Thursday congratulated citizens on the 78th Independence Day, stating that he believes a new era is about to begin, where the youth will need to take the initiative.

Speaking to the media in Srinagar, as per the News Vibes of India, Altaf Bukhari said the country has made significant progress over the past 78 years and expressed hope for continued development.

“Congratulations to the citizens on the 78th Independence Day. I hope that just as we have achieved countless progress in the last 78 years, we will continue to do so in the future, and we will emerge as the world’s strongest democracy,” Bukhari said.

“It seems the dark clouds hovering over us are beginning to disperse, and after five years of being distanced from democracy, it now seems that the people will have the opportunity to elect their own representatives,” said Bukhari, adding that he hopes the upcoming government will heal the wounds of the people, which have been inflicted over the past 35 years.

He also spoke about the challenges faced by the youth and the elderly in Jammu & Kashmir, stating that we have seen our youth become unemployed, the dignity of our elders being auctioned off, and the honor of our daughters, mothers, and sisters being compromised. “The dignity of the people of Jammu & Kashmir has been played with and bargained away,” he lamented.

“I believe a new era is about to begin, where the youth will need to take the initiative, and I confidently say that the Apni Party will always care for our youth and their aspirations,” said Bukhari, urging the youth to take the lead in the new era that is emerging.

“Despite being only four and a half years old, the party’s performance in the recent parliamentary elections fell short of expectations. Perhaps people did not appreciate where we offered our support or provided assistance,” admitted Bukhari, adding that he remains committed to the party’s goals and the people of Jammu & Kashmir.—(NVI)
