Srinagar, Jun 25 (NVI): Anantnag Police has launched a comprehensive surveillance and security initiative, titled “Project Hawk Eye”, to strengthen security arrangements for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026, officials said on Thursday.
The initiative aims to ensure round-the-clock monitoring of the pilgrimage route through a multi-layered security grid integrating advanced surveillance technology and strategic deployment of personnel.
As part of the project, five drone units have been deployed at key locations to provide real-time aerial surveillance and enhance situational awareness, officials said. The drone network is expected to facilitate quick assessment of emerging situations and support prompt response by ground forces.
To strengthen ground surveillance, police have established 28 Machan Morchas (elevated observation posts) at vulnerable and sensitive locations along the route. In addition, 22 specially trained sniper teams have been positioned at designated points to reinforce the security framework, they said.
Officials said 416 high-resolution CCTV cameras along with Facial Recognition System (FRS) infrastructure have been installed at critical locations to enable continuous monitoring and assist in the timely detection of suspicious activities.
The integrated surveillance network provides comprehensive monitoring from both aerial and ground platforms, enhancing the overall security architecture for the annual pilgrimage, they added.
Police said the initiative reflects its commitment to leveraging modern technology and professional policing practices to ensure a safe and peaceful yatra. They also appealed to the public to cooperate with security agencies and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police establishment.(NVI)
