Srinagar, Sep 16 (NVI): In a significant political development, Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party chief Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari today announced full support to jailed cleric Sarjan Barkati from Beerwah Assembly constituency in Budgam district.
Talking to reporters in Srinagar, Bukhari said that the Apni Party led by him and all its constituents will support Sarjan Barkati in the upcoming polls. “Directions in this regard have been passed to all rank and file of the party. Apart from that our constituents will also support Sarjan Barkati,” Bukhari said.
Barkati along with his wife is behind the bars in connection with the terror funding case. Barkati earlier had filed his nominations from Zainapora constituency of Shopian where his nomination papers were rejected on the pretext of “non availability of oath certificate.” Later, Barkati’s daughter Sugra Barkati filed nomination papers on behalf of her father from Beerwah and Ganderabal Assembly seats. Sugra is also campaigning for her jailed father from both seats.
in Ganderbal, Barkati will face Omar Abdullah of NC and Bashir Mir of PDP. Omar has already stated that jailed people were deliberately being pitched against him to ensure he doesn’t reach Assembly. (News Vibes of India)
