Quetta: A daring attack by a group of armed rebels at a camp of Pakistani paramilitary force Frontier Corps in Balochistan has left dozens of security personnel dead and injured after more than 24 hours of gunfight that ended this morning.
Six gunmen stormed the high security campus in Muslim Bagh area of Qilla Saifullah district yesterday morning, firing indiscriminately and lobbing grenades, according to officials.
There was chaos at the compound, with the paramilitary personnel either falling to the bullets or running helter skelter, eyewitnesses said.
Intense exchange of fire continued through the day and last night, with the Pakistani security personnel struggling hard to flush out the armed intruders.
The attackers gave a tough fight and continued to engage the forces, even as they got killed one by one.
By this morning, all the 6 attackers were killed but not before they gunned down 14 security personnel and left 16 injured.
The death toll is likely to increase as many among the injured are said to be in critical condition.
The attack has been claimed by a new organization, Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan (TJP).
TJP, in a statement, confirmed the killing of its 6 activists who carried out the suicide attack and released their photos.
