Poonch, Aug 21 (NVI): A 68-year-old pilgrim from Bihar died after suffering a massive heart attack at a lodgement centre during the ongoing Shri Budha Amarnath Yatra in Poonch district, officials said on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Dinesh Prasad, a resident of Gaya in Bihar.
According to Chief Medical Officer Poonch Dr Parvaiz Ahmed Khan, Prasad suffered a sudden cardiac arrest at the Dashnami Akhara Lodgement Centre around 12:05 am.
A medical team immediately attended to him and provided emergency treatment, including oxygen support and CPR. He was subsequently shifted to District Hospital Poonch, with CPR being continued during the transfer and a doctor accompanying him in the ambulance.
The pilgrim reached the hospital around 12:15 am, where doctors administered emergency cardiac and life-saving treatment.
However, he could not be revived and was declared dead at around 12:25 am, the officials said.
The Shri Budha Amarnath Yatra is currently underway in Poonch, with devotees from different parts of the country participating in the annual pilgrimage.(NVI)
