Karachi: Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) tonight said its suicide bomber targeted a highly-protected convoy of Chinese engineers and investors here in the capital of Sindh Province of Pakistan, eliminating “several” of them and the security personnel escorting them.

In a statement to NVI, BLA said its “Fidayeen unit, Majeed Brigade, targeted a high-level convoy of Chinese engineers and investors departing from Jinnah Airport in Karachi.”

The convoy was targeted by a vehicle laden with explosives which was driven by the suicide bomber.

“In the Fidayeen VBIED (vehicle-borne IED) attack, several Chinese nationals and their security personnel were eliminated,” said the statement issued by its spokesman Jeeyand Baloch.

“The BLA has claimed responsibility for the attack. Further details will be released to the media soon,” he added.

Hours later, the BLA released a file photo of the suicide bomber who carried out the attack.

He was identified as Majeed Brigade-BLA commander Shaheed Shah Fahad aka Aftab.

The Chinese engineers were believed to be associated with CPEC project in Karachi, the capital of Sindh Province.
