New Delhi (NVI): A Chinese soldier was apprehended by the Indian Army from an area south of the Pangong lake in eastern Ladakh in the early hours of January 8.

The People’s Liberation Army (PLA) soldier transgressed into the Indian side of the Line of Actual Control and was taken into custody by Indian troops deployed in this area, according to a statement issued by the Indian Army today.

“The PLA soldier is being dealt with as per laid down procedures and circumstances under which he had crossed the LAC are being investigated,” the statement added.

Troops from both sides are deployed along the LAC since the friction erupted last year due to unprecedented mobilisation and forward concentration by Chinese troops.

Further details about the incident are awaited.

Notably, this is the second such incident wherein a Chinese soldier has been apprehended for crossing the LAC in eastern Ladakh in the last few months.

Last year in October, a Chinese soldier identified as Corporal Wang Ya Long was apprehended after he crossed the LAC in Demchok sector. He was handed over to Chinese Army later as per the protocol.
