New Delhi (NVI): More than 12 million people around the world have been diagnosed with coronavirus and at least 548,896 have died, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University. About 6.5 million patients have recovered.
In the US, the total number of coronavirus cases have surged past 3 million while the number of fatalities rose to more than 1,32,000 in the country.
Coronavirus cases in Brazil surpassed 1.7 million. The death toll in the Latin American country is nearing 68,000.
Mexico has posted a fresh record for new coronavirus cases reported on a single day, with 6,995 infections, overtaking Spain to register the world’s eighth highest case count.
In addition to this, Africa now has more than a half-million confirmed coronavirus cases. The continent-wide total is now over 5,08,000 after South Africa recorded another day of more than 10,000 confirmed cases as a new global hot spot.
South Korea has reported 50 new cases of the coronavirus as new clusters continue to emerge across the country. The figures announced by South Korea’s Centers for Disease Control and Prevention brought the national total to 13,293 cases, including 287 deaths.
The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Germany rose 442 to 197,783. The death toll rose to 9,048 after 12 new deaths were reported since yesterday.
