Coronavirus cases surge past 113.3 million worldwide

New Delhi (NVI): The global count of coronavirus cases has reached more than 113.3 million, with over 2,515,800 deaths reported. Over 63.8 million patients have been cured from the deadly contagion, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

In the US, the total number of coronavirus infection have reached to more than 28.4 million, while the total number of COVID-19 fatalities have surpassed 5,10,300 in the country.

Brazil’s coronavirus cases has surpassed 10.4-million mark and stands at 10,455,600 while the country accounts for the second highest number of COVID-19 fatalities at 2,52,835

The Chinese mainland registered 10 new COVID-19 cases as against six a day before. The overall caseload stands at 89,887 while death toll remain unchanged at 4,635.

Mexico’s health ministry also recorded an additional 7,512 coronavirus cases, pushing the total to 2,076,882. 782 new fatalities took the death toll to 184,474 in the country.

In another development, Cote d’Ivoire received a shipment of COVID-19 doses from the COVAX facility yesterday, becoming the second country after Ghana to benefit from a program meant to ensure fairer distribution of vaccine.

Meanwhile, Greece has extended a strict lockdown for high-risk areas of the country, which include Athens and the surrounding area, by one week to March 8, citing a rise in new coronavirus cases.
