Coronavirus cases surge past 116 million worldwide

New Delhi (NVI): The global count of coronavirus cases has reached more than 116 million, with over 2,578,900 deaths reported. Over 64.4 million patients have been cured from the deadly contagion, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

In the US, the total number of coronavirus infection have reached to more than 28.88 million, while the total number of COVID-19 fatalities have surpassed 5,22,700 in the country.

Brazil’s coronavirus cases has surpassed 10.8-million mark and stands at 10,869,277 while the country accounts for the second highest number of COVID-19 fatalities at 2,62,770

The Mainland China reported 10 new COVID-19 cases on March 5, pushing the total caseload to 89,962, with the death toll unchanged at 4,636, the country’s
national health authority said.

Mexico’s health ministry registered 712 new fatalities from coronavirus and 6,797 fresh cases. The total number of cases stands at 2,119,305 with 189,578 deaths in the country.

In another development, COVAX, the international vaccine campaign co-led by the World Health Organization (WHO) and its partners, had delivered more than 20 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines to 20 countries, the WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said.

Meanwhile, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga announced that the country has extended the state of emergency over the coronavirus in Tokyo and three neighboring prefectures till March 21.
