New Delhi (NVI): The total number of coronavirus cases in India has risen to 5,85,493 while the death toll due to the virus has gone up to 17,400, according to the Union Health Ministry.
In the past 24 hours, 18,653 new COVID-19 infections and 507 more deaths were reported in the country.
At least 3,47,979 patients have been cured of the virus or discharged, the ministry said.
With 1,74,761 confirmed cases of COVID-19 so far, Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state in the country, followed by Tamil Nadu with 90,167 cases and Delhi with 87,360 positive cases.
Maharashtra has also reported the highest number of fatalities at 7,855, followed by 1,846 in Gujarat and 1,201 in Tamil Nadu.

The death toll in the national capital surged to 2,742. While another 58,348 patients in Delhi have recovered so far, healthy ministry data shows.
Meanwhile, the guidelines for Unlock 2, issued by the Centre, are to implemented from today in the country.
Apart from that, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while addressing the nation yesterday amid rising COVID-19 cases, warned against negligence in personal and social behaviour.
