New Delhi (NVI): Several parts of North and North West India are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall till tomorrow because of the cyclonic storm Tauktae which is predicted to move northeastwards across Rajasthan to Uttar Pradesh over the next two days, the IMD said today.
The interaction of the remnant low-pressure system with a trough in westerlies associated with a Western Disturbance is very likely to cause light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy falls and extremely heavy falls at isolated places over Uttarakhand, heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh and Heavy rainfall at isolated places over Punjab, East Uttar Pradesh, north Madhya Pradesh and West Rajasthan during next 24 hours, the IMD said.
In addition, high moisture feeding from Arabian Sea is also likely over northwest India.
As a result, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity likely over northwest India (except Jammu & Kashmir) with heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls at isolated places over Uttarakhand, it said.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi, West Uttar Pradesh; and heavy rainfall at isolated places over Punjab, East Uttar Pradesh and north Rajasthan on May 19.
Rainfall activity is very likely to decrease from May 20 with scattered to fairly widespread rainfall over Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand with possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Uttarakhand and heavy rainfall at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh & Delhi and Uttar Pradesh on 20th May, the IMD said.
Rainfall activity is very likely to decrease significantly over the region from May 21, it added.
