New Delhi (NVI): The overall air quality slipped back into the ‘poor’ category in Delhi this morning, a day after it improved to the ‘moderate’ due to high surface winds, the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR) confirmed.
The strong winds slowed down yesterday evening advanced in preventing dispersion of atmospheric pollutants.
According to the Ministry of Earth Science’s air quality monitor, SAFAR, the Air Quality Index (AQI) in the national capital stood at 269 which falls in ‘poor’ category at around 6 am.
The concentrations of the particulate matter (PM) with a diameter of 10 and 2.5 microns stood at 262 and 111, both falling under the ‘poor’ category respectively, SAFAR said.
Meanwhile, the AQI in Anand Vihar was recorded at 226, 300 in Bawana, 205 in Mathura Road, 255 in Chandni Chowk, 220 in Dwarka Sector 8, 257 in Jahangirpuri, 239 in Mundka, 214 in RK Puram and, all under the ‘poor’ category, the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data shows.
Other areas of Delhi such as Alipur, Aya Nagar, Dilshad Garden, Delhi University (North Campus) and IGI Airport (Terminal 3) recorded ‘moderate’ air quality, with the AQI values standing at 195, 155, 176, 196 and 166 respectively
As per government agencies, an AQI within the range of 0-5 is regarded as ‘good’, 51-100 is ‘satisfactory’, 101-200 is ‘moderate’, 201-300 is ‘poor’ and 301-400 is ‘very poor’ and 401-500 is considered ‘severe’.
Apart from that, the minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 19 degrees Celsius, five notches below the normal and the maximum temperature to settle at 34 degrees Celsius, Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
