Srinagar, July 16 (NVI) As four more Army men lost their lives in a terror attack, PDP leader and former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti today said there seems to be no accountability of the DGP of the Union Territory for the current security situation in which so many soldiers have died in the last 32 months.

Addressing the media, she alleged that the DGP R R Swain was more focussed on fulfilling political agendas rather than strengthening security.

“Almost 50 soldiers have lost their lives in the last 32 months…. By now, heads should have rolled. The DGP should have been sacked….(But) there is no accountability,” Mufti said.

Her remarks came as 4 Indian Army men, including a Captain, were killed in a gunfight with terrorists in a forest area of Doda district in Jammu last night.

Mufti accused the DGP of concentrating on political matters, particularly targeting the PDP.

“The DGP is busy fixing things politically. His job is to break the PDP, harass people and journalists, and threaten people,” she claimed.

She alleged misuse of verification processes and the imposition of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) on many people, describing it as a strategy to suppress dissent.

“Verification has been weaponised. They are finding ways to impose UAPA on maximum people,” the PDP leader claimed.

Mufti emphasized the need for a professional and non-partisan police chief, suggesting that DGPs from other states have performed well in the past without engaging in communal practices.

“We don’t need a fixer here, we need a DGP. We have had DGPs from other states before and they have worked very well. No one has worked on communal lines like things are being done now,” she alleged further.  (News Vibes of India)
