Srinagar, Aug 08 (NVI): In a significant move towards resuming the electoral process in Jammu and Kashmir, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, accompanied by Election Commissioners, arrived at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar.
The delegation is scheduled to meet various stakeholders, including political parties, to discuss the possibilities and preparations for holding assembly elections in the Union Territory.
The first meeting is set to commence shortly, featuring representatives from major political parties such as the National Conference (NC), the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and the Congress.
These parties have dispatched their senior leaders to advocate for the immediate conduct of assembly elections, which have not been held in the region since the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganization of the state into a Union Territory in August 2019.
The political leaders are expected to press for the restoration of democratic processes, emphasizing the importance of an elected government in addressing the needs and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
The meeting comes at a time when there is heightened demand for political representation and governance through a local legislative assembly.
The discussions are likely to cover various aspects of election preparedness, including security arrangements, voter registration, and the logistical challenges of conducting elections in the region.
The meeting signifies a crucial step in assessing the political landscape and gauging the readiness of stakeholders to facilitate a smooth electoral process.(News Vibes of India)
