New Delhi (NVI): A viral WhatsApp message has claimed that punitive action will be taken against anyone other than government officials for posting messages related to COVID-19.
Dismissing the claim, the government’s Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check wing said that claim made in the message is fake.
“A WhatsApp message claims that punitive action will be taken against anyone other than government departments for posting messages related to Corona,” the PIB tweeted.
“PIB Fact Check: The claim made in this message is fake,” it added.
The Press Information Bureau launched this fact-checking unit in December 2019, to identify misinformation related to the government’s policies and schemes that are circulating on various social media platforms.
