Guwahati, June 13: In a tragic accident, 5 personnel of the Indian Air Force (IAF), including a senior officer, were killed today after their AN-32 transport aircraft crashed while landing at the Jorhat Airbase in Assam.
The co-pilot survived the crash and is currently undergoing treatment.
In a statement, IAF said a Court of Inquiry has been ordered to determine the cause of the crash.
The deceased personnel were:
- Squadron Leader Prashant Singh
- Flight Lieutenant Shubham Kumar
- Sergeant Jitendra Sharma
- Agniveervayu Khemaram Kumawat
- Agniveervayu Danish Alam
The IAF said it extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved families and stands firmly with them in this hour of grief.
According to reports, the aircraft caught fire after landing.
Firefighting teams were rushed to the spot immediately after the incident. (NVI)
