Srinagar, Dec 19(NVI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security review meeting in New Delhi today focusing on the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

This was the first such meeting since the assembly elections held in September-October, which resulted in a National Conference-led government under Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.

The meeting was attended by Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan and senior officials from the Army, paramilitary forces, intelligence agencies, and the Ministry of Home Affairs. J&K Chief Secretary Atal Dullo also attended the meeting.

Sources said that discussions centered on the security roadmap for 2025, addressing recent terror incidents, including the October 20 attack in Gagangeer, Ganderbal, which claimed seven lives and other assaults targeting non-locals in the region. The meeting aimed to assess the current security framework and outline measures to prevent future attacks, ensuring peace and stability in the Union Territory.

Since the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019, law and order in the region have been under the purview of the central government. Official data indicates a decline in violence, with 142 terrorists eliminated in 2019 compared to around 50 so far this year. Civilian casualties have also decreased from 50 in 2019 to 14 by early November 2024.

This meeting underscores the central government’s commitment to closely monitoring and addressing security challenges in Jammu and Kashmir, aiming to foster a secure environment conducive to development and normalcy. (News Vibes of India)
