New Delhi (NVI): Former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who was undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College Hospital for post-Covid complications, passed away today at the age of 86.
Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced his death. Gogoi was critical and was put on life support on Sunday. His condition deteriorated further today as he suffered multi-organ failure.
Leaders cutting across party lines paid tributes to the veteran Congress leader. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while condoling his death, tweeted: “Shri Tarun Gogoi Ji was a popular leader and a veteran administrator, who had years of political experience in Assam as well as the Centre. Anguished by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and supporters in this hour of sadness. Om Shanti.”

Gogoi was admitted to GMCH on November 2 following breathing problems due to post-Covid-19 complications. The leader had been battling Covid-19 complications for over a month.
