Global coronavirus cases surge past 135.8 million

New Delhi (NVI): The global count of coronavirus cases has reached more than 135.8 million, with over 2,935,000 deaths reported. Over 77.3 million patients have been cured of the deadly contagion, according to Johns Hopkins University data.

In the US, the total number of coronavirus infection has reached to more than 31.1 million, while the total number of COVID-19 fatalities have surpassed 5,62,000 in the country.

Brazil’s coronavirus cases have crossed the 13.4 million-mark and stand at 13,482,023 while the number of deaths has surged past 3,53,000.

Furthermore, Italy reported 331 coronavirus-related deaths on Sunday, compared with 344 the day before, the health ministry said, while the daily tally of new infections fell to 15,746 from 17,567 the day before.

Mexico reported 1,793 new confirmed cases of the coronavirus and 126 more fatalities, according to new data from the health ministry, bringing the total to 2,280,213 infections and 209,338 deaths.

In another development, Iran reported a further 258 Covid-19 deaths in the past 24 hours, the health ministry said on Sunday, the highest daily toll since early December.

Meanwhile, the Dutch government on Sunday dashed hopes of an early easing of lockdown, saying a night-time curfew and other restrictions would remain until at least 28 April as daily infections rose to a two-week high.
