New Delhi (NVI): The global count of coronavirus cases has reached more than 88.82 million, with over 19,11,600 deaths reported. Over 49.2 million patients have been cured and recovered from the deadly contagion, according to Johns Hopkins University data.
In the US, the total number of coronavirus cases have reached more than 21.85 million while the total number of fatalities have surpassed 3,68,700 in the country.
Brazil’s coronavirus cases has surpassed 8 million, while the country accounts for the second highest number of COVID-19 fatalities at 2,01,460
The health ministry of Mexico reported 14,362 new cases of coronavirus and 1,038 deaths. With this, the country now topped 1.5 million total infections and over 1,32,000 deaths so far in the pandemic.
Germany also registered a record 1,188 daily COVID-19 deaths on Friday, only days after further tightening the nationwide lockdown. The number of fatalities in country stands at 39,502 with total 1,894,376 cases.
Meanwhile, Greece has extended a two-month lockdown by at least one week, through January 18 and has announced plans to increase the number of people getting COVID-19 vaccines from 5,000 per day to 8,000 per day.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has warned richer nations against hoarding COVID-19 vaccines, saying there is a clear problem that low- and middle-income countries are not yet receiving supplies of COVID-19 vaccines.
