Srinagar (NVI): An encounter broke out between militants and security forces at Dangerpora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, police officials said today.

They said that after receiving a specific lead about the presence of militants, joint teams of army, police and paramilitary CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Wasbugh-Dangerpora area of main town of Pulwama district.

A police official said that when the forces zeroed in on the suspected spot where militants were believed to be hiding, the militants opened fire triggering of a gunfight. “At least two militants are believed to be hiding in a residential house,” he added.

It may be recalled that the security agencies have intensified anti-militancy operations across Kashmir amid COVID-19 pandemic.

So far 30 militants of various militant outfits have been killed in encounters with the security forces since the first case of coronavirus was reported in the Valley on March 18.

Since January, at least 50 militants have been killed in J&K, as per official figures.
