Heavy rains likely over western coast & East India

New Delhi: Parts of western coast and eastern states of India are expected to receive heavy rainfall today, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

“Heavy Rainfall very likely at isolated places over Bihar, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Assam & Meghalaya, South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal and Kerala & Mahe, ” the IMD said.

It has also predicted thunderstorms with lightning & gusty winds (speed reaching 30-40 kmph) at isolated places over Jammu, Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan & Muzaffarabad, East Rajasthan.

“With lightning at isolated places over Chhattisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal & Sikkim, Odisha, Assam & Meghalaya, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam, Telangana, Rayalaseema, Interior Karnataka,” the IMD said.

“Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala & Mahe and Lakshadweep are also likely to witness lightning, it said.

Strong Winds (speed 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph) very likely over the Southwest Arabian Sea.

The IMD advised fishermen not to venture into these areas.
