Kolkata (NVI): Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, who is India on a special invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, inaugurated historic first-ever pink ball day-night Test match between India and Bangladesh here at iconic Eden Gardens today.

Hasina, together with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee inaugurated the Test Match by ringing the Eden Bell just before the start of play before a sell-out crowd at the giant stadium.

Earlier in the day, president of India’s cricket board Sourav Ganguly. Mayor of Kolkata Firhad Hakim, Bangladeshi High Commissioner in India Syed Muazzem Ali and others received her at the airport.

India is taking on Bangladesh in its first-ever pink- ball Test match, seven years after the International Cricket Council (ICC) gave its approval to the format. The Pink ball Test match will be the second Test of the ongoing two-match series against Bangladesh.

Hasina and Banerjee are scheduled to hold a brief one-on-one meeting on the sidelines of the match.
