New Delhi (NVI): India today said that it has not conceded any territory along the Line of Actual Control as a result of the disengagement pact with China and has rather enforced observance and respect for LAC.
While addressing the weekly press conference earlier today, MEA spokesman Anurag Srivastava said that India “has prevented any unilateral change in the status quo along LAC under the disengagement process.”
He said that there has not been any change in India’s position on the LAC, adding that the mutual redeployment as a result of the disengagement process should not be interpreted.
The disengagement process between the two armies in the Pangong Lake area began on February 10 this year and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh asserted in Parliament the next day that India had made no compromise in the agreement.
“The 10th round of the Senior Commanders meeting was held on 20 February 2021. As agreed earlier by the two sides, the 10th meeting was convened within 48 hours of the completion of disengagement in the North and South Bank of Pangong Tso,” MEA spokesman said today.
“You would have seen the Joint Press Release issued after this latest round of Senior Commanders’ meeting. The two sides had candid and in-depth exchange of views on the remaining issues along the LAC in the Western sector. Both sides view the smooth and successful completion of disengagement in the North and South Bank as a significant first step as this forms a basis for resolution of remaining issues so as to achieve the eventual goal of complete disengagement in all friction areas. The two sides have agreed to work towards a mutually acceptable resolution of the remaining issues,” he added.
The military face-off between the two countries began in May last year after China tried to change the status quo at the LAC.
