New Delhi (NVI): India manufactured COVID-19 vaccines consignment today landed in Dubai taking one step forward in the vaccine maitri initiative.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar took to Twitter and shared the news with picture of the Air India flight carrying the vaccines consignment.
“Made in India vaccines reach Dubai. A special friend, a special relationship. #VaccineMaitri,” Jaishankar wrote on Twitter.
Indian Ambassador to the UAE Pavan Kapoor responded to Jaishankar tweet and said, “Always glad to support a close friend. Another example of the India-UAE partnership in healthcare.”

Under the vaccine Maitri initiative, India has already send consignments of its indegenous vaccines to neighbouring countries including Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar, Seychelles and Egypt in phased manner.
Notably, the two indegenous vaccines of India are — Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin and Covishield, which was developed by AstraZeneca and Oxford University, and is being manufactured by Pune-based Serum Institute.
So far, India has delivered ove 55 lakh doses of coronavirus vaccines to its neighbouring countries and those in its extended neighbourhood.
