New Delhi: In a veiled manner, India slammed Germany today for talking about Kashmir and for echoing the Pakistani view about the UN role.
A day after German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock spoke about Kashmir during a joint press conference with Pakistan Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in Berlin, India said “grave injustice” was being meted out to the victims of terrorism by Germany by not recognising the dangers of terrorism perpetrated by Pakistan.
Baerbock had said that the foundation of the UN is that “human rights are indivisible, and this counts for every region in the world.”
She went on to add, “It also counts for Kashmir and, therefore, we support the work of the United Nations also with the situation in Kashmir to ensure that all the human rights are being guaranteed.”
Reacting strongly, Arindam Bagchi, spokesman of India’s External Affairs Ministry, said the “Indian Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir” has borne the brunt of Pakistan’s terrorist campaign for decades.
He reminded that even foreign nationals have been victims of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism in Kashmir, as also in other parts of India.
“All serious and conscientious members of the global community have a role and responsibility to call out international terrorism, especially of a cross-border nature,” Bagchi said.

“When states do not recognise such dangers, either because of self-interest or indifference, they undermine the cause of peace, not promote it. They also do grave injustice to the victims of terrorism,” the MEA spokesman said in the statement.

Bagchi noted that the United Nations Security Council and the Financial Action Task Force “are still pursuing Pakistan-based terrorists involved in the horrific 26/11 attacks”, in which several foreigners were among those killed and injured.
