India’s covid tally rises by 17,921 new infections, 133 deaths

New Delhi (NVI): With 17,921 new coronavirus infections being reported in the last 24 hours, the overall tally has climbed to 11,262,707, the Union Health Ministry confirmed today.

The death count climbed to 1,58,063 with the novel coronavirus virus claiming 133 lives during this period, the data showed. The COVID-19 case fatality rate stood at 1.41 percent.

Currently, more than 1.09 crore patients have been cured and recovered across the country and the total number of recoveries stands at 10,920,046, which translates to a national COVID-19 recovery rate of 96.96 percent.

Meanwhile, the COVID-19 active caseload dropped to 1,84,598 which now comprises 1.64 per cent of the total infections.

Maharashtra remains the worst-affected state with 22,38,398 COVID-19 cases followed by Kerala with 10,81,055 and Karnataka with 9,56,041 positive cases.

The other worst hit states are Andhra Pradesh (8,90,884), Tamil Nadu (8,56,246), Delhi (6,41,660) and Uttar Pradesh (6,04,527).

At the same time, more than 20 lakh people were inoculated against coronavirus on March 8, the highest in a day so far, taking the total number of vaccine doses administered in the country to over 2.3 crore, the Union Health Ministry said.
