New Delhi (NVI): The number of coronavirus cases in India reached 24,61,190 after the country reported of 64,553 fresh cases in the past 24 hours, Union Health Ministry said.
The country’s death toll stands at 48,040 with 1,007 new fatalities being reported during this period.
As many as 17,51,556 COVID-19 patients have been cured and discharged so far. With this, the recovery rate improved further to 71.2 per cent in India.
In worst-affected Maharashtra the coronavirus tally reaches 5,60,126, followed by Tamil Nadu (3,20,355), Andhra Pradesh (2,64,142) and Delhi (1,49,460).
The other worst-hit states in the country are Karnataka (2,03,200) Uttar Pradesh (1,40,775), West Bengal (1,07,323) and Gujarat (75,408).
In terms of fatalities, Maharashtra again tops the tally with 19,063 deaths, ministry said.
The death toll in the national surged to 4,167 while another 1,34,318 patients have recovered in Delhi so far, healthy ministry data shows.
According to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), the total of 2,76,94,416 samples tested for COVID-19 in the country up to August 13. Of these, 8,48,728 samples were tested yesterday.
Meanwhile, the ICMR and the Serum Institute will conduct a virtual meeting today with principal investigators to discuss the Covishield vaccine trial.
