New Delhi (NVI): India witnessed a single-day jump of 96,424 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the overall tally to 52,14,678, Union Health Ministry said.
The country’s death toll has gone up to 84,372 with 1,174 new fatalities being reported during this period.
So far, 41,12,552 patients have been cured and recovered all over the country while active cases stands at 10,17,754.
In worst-hit Maharashtra, the COVID-19 cases climbed to 11,45,840, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 6,01,462 cases, and Tamil Nadu with 5,25,420 cases.
Other states with high virus cases are Karnataka (4,94,356), Uttar Pradesh (3,36,294) and Delhi (2,34,701).
Maharashtra has also reported the highest number of death toll at 31,351 followed by 8,618 deaths in Tamil Nadu.
The death toll in the national capital surpassed to 4,877, while 1,98,103 patients have recovered so far, the healthy ministry data shows.
According to the Indian Council Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 6,15,72,343 samples tested up to September 17 for COVID-19. Of these, 10,06,615 samples were tested yesterday.
Meanwhile, the government also said that around 60 per cent of the active cases are concentrated in only 5 most affected states. There are 13 States and UTs that even today have less than 5000 active cases.
