Srinagar, May 14 (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir Police has intensified its anti-narcotics drive under the “Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan”, arresting 806 persons and registering 724 NDPS cases during the last one month, Director General of Police Nalin Prabhat said on Thursday.
Addressing a press conference here, the DGP said police seized 667 kilograms of narcotic substances and over 19,000 psychotropic units between April 11 and May 12 as part of the campaign against drug trafficking networks operating in the Union Territory.
He said 24 habitual offenders were booked under the PIT-NDPS Act during the period.
Prabhat said police attached 97 properties worth Rs 41.85 crore linked to narcotics trafficking, describing it as a major financial crackdown on drug networks.
He said Anantnag Police carried out the highest single-case attachment worth Rs 6.17 crore, while properties linked to narcotics proceeds were also attached outside Jammu and Kashmir for the first time in Punjab’s Gurdaspur and Pathankot districts and in Chandigarh.
The DGP said police demolished 41 illegal structures worth nearly Rs 15 crore allegedly built using proceeds from the narcotics trade after following due legal procedures.
He added that illicit cultivation of poppy and cannabis spread over 117 kanals of land was destroyed during the campaign.
Prabhat said police also conducted 2,401 awareness and sensitisation programmes in schools, colleges and identified hotspots, reaching nearly three lakh people.
As part of enforcement measures, police inspected 5,238 pharmaceutical establishments and initiated action against 151 violators, he said.
The DGP said courts also permitted disposal of vehicles involved in drug-related offences in several districts, while 4,962 kilograms of narcotics and 6,493 psychotropic units were destroyed.
He added that 162 driving licences and 92 vehicle registration certificates were suspended or cancelled, while recommendations were made for impounding 10 passports.
Highlighting the broader anti-narcotics efforts since 2023, Prabhat said the value of attached properties increased twelve-fold by 2026 and Jammu and Kashmir ranked first in the country in PIT-NDPS preventive detentions with 240 such detentions in 2025.
He warned Pakistan-based narcotics handlers, local drug peddlers and their facilitators of strict action, saying the crackdown on organised drug networks would continue with full intensity.(NVI)
