New Delhi, Sept 26: “A terrorist country is asking me that question?”
This was the cryptic response of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar whenn a Pakistani journalist, at a press meet at the United Nations, asked him: “When will your government stop sponsoring terrorism in Pakistan?”
Jaishankar was obviously referring to Pakistan which continuously supports and promotes international terrorism, which has affected India particularly.
The press meet, along with Sara Beysolow Nyanti, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Liberia, was organised in connection with the Group of Friends on Safety and Security of Shipping and Seafarers on the sidelines of the annual United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) session.
The event had been announced as a remarks-only briefing before it began.
However, towards the end, the Pakistani reporter abruptly intervened and asked the question.
Jaishankar, who is New York to address the UNGA session, has held a number of bilateral and multilateral meetings.
India has repeatedly called on Pakistan to take “credible action” against cross-border terrorism. India launched Operation Sindoor following the Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 civilians were killed.
