Terrorists in a truck were on way to Srinagar

Jammu: Possibly a major terror attack was foiled today as police and security forces killed 4 terrorists in a gunfight in uptown Sidhra area of Jammu.

A large quantity of arms and ammunition, including 7 AK rifles, one M4 rifle and 3 pistols, were recovered from the slain terrorists, police said.

The terrorists were travelling in a truck which was intercepted by a joint team of police and security forces at around 7 am, police said.

ADGP Jammu Mukesh Singh said the police, which is already on high alert in view of upcoming Republic Day, noticed unusual movement by the truck at odd hours & a Quick Reaction Team (QRT) chased it.

“The truck was stopped at Sidhra check post.The driver was asked to alight. He gave an excuse of answering the call of nature and fled,” Singh said.

When the police and security forces started examining the truck, the terrorists hiding inside opened fire, he said.

The firing was retaliated and 4 were killed in the encounter, he said.

The truck was on its way to Srinagar from Jammu, he said.

The truck owner is yet to be identified, the ADGP said, adding a hunt has been launched and alert sounded for the truck driver.

Investigation is underway to ascertain further details.
