Srinagar (NVI): An Army officer posted at an Army Depot shot himself dead today in Khanmoh area on the outskirts of Srinagar in Kashmir, defence officials said.
They said that the officer, identified as Lt Col Sudeep Bhagat Singh Negi, shot himself from his personal weapon at around 8.30 pm today. He was immediately shifted to hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
“Lt Col Sudeep Bhagat Singh Negi posted at ASC Battalion Khunmoh, shot himself and succumbed to injuries due to fire from his personal weapon at around 0830 hours on 03 March 21. Circumstances of the incident are being investigated,” the Army said in a statement.
The cause of him taking such an extreme step was not known immediately, defence officials said, adding that all necessary proceedings into the incident have been launched.
