Srinagar, Sep 21 (NVI) : The autumn session of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly began here on Monday with the House paying tribute to three former ministers and legislators who passed away recently.
Speaker of the Assembly made obituary references to Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Dharam Paul and Ghulam Hassan Khan, recalling their contributions to public service and legislative affairs.
Members observed a two-minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed leaders.
The House thereafter proceeded with the listed business, including Question Hour, during which legislators are scheduled to raise issues concerning public administration and their respective constituencies.
The concerned ministers are expected to respond to the questions raised by the members.
The Speaker is also scheduled to announce the Panel of Chairmen during the day’s proceedings.
Among the key items on the agenda is the tabling of a report of the House Committee headed by Justice Hasnain Masoodi on alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in Jammu and Kashmir.
The report is scheduled to be formally laid before the House for consideration.
The legislative agenda also includes introduction of a Bill relating to the cooperative sector.
Cooperatives Minister Javid Ahmad Dar is scheduled to move the legislation seeking amendments to the Jammu and Kashmir Cooperative Societies Act, 1989, besides proposing repeal of the Jammu and Kashmir Self Reliant Cooperative Act, 1999.
The Bill also contains transitional provisions for bringing self-reliant cooperative societies under the framework of the 1989 Act.
The autumn sitting was convened following the Lieutenant Governor’s summons for the Assembly to meet in Srinagar from Monday.
The legislators are expected to take up various legislative, administrative and constituency-related matters during the sitting.
The Assembly Secretariat has also made arrangements for the members attending the session, including first-aid medical units at the Assembly premises and the MLAs’ Hostel.
Tea and lunch facilities have been arranged through the Jammu and Kashmir Tourism Development Corporation (JKTDC) within the Assembly premises at prescribed rates.—(NVI)
