Srinagar, July 30 (NVI) Highlighting Pakistan’s unabated efforts to push terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir, two heavily-armed infiltrators were killed today by the Indian forces near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district.

A huge consignment of weapons, ammunition and other war-like & logistic stores were recovered from the slain terrorists, which indicated they were well-prepared for a prolonged engagement, the Indian Army said.

The Indian forces carried out the ‘Operation ShivShakti’ on the basis of “credible intelligence inputs acquired by synergistic and synchronised intelligence coordination by military and civil intelligence units in concert with J&K Police regarding the presence of terrorists in the area.”

Acting swiftly on the inputs, the security forces laid coordinated ambushes on the appreciated infiltration routes last night.

When the infiltrators were sighted, they were challenged, leading to a fierce gunfight between them and the security forces along the Line of Control in the early morning hours today.

The gunfight resulted in the neutralisation of two terrorists and recovery of large quantity of war like stores, the Army said.

“The swift, coordinated and decisive action by security forces prevented any collateral damage and ensured the safety of local population,” said Army PRO and Spokesperson Lt. Col. Suneel Bartwal in a statement.

The recovered war-like stores include two assault rifles with ammunition, one pistol with ammunition, hand grenades, two Improvised explosive devices, medicines, communication device and other logistic stores, he said.

“The huge recovery of war like & logistic stores indicate that the terrorists were well-prepared for prolonged engagement,” the spokesperson said.

“This operation highlights high level of synergy, coordination and commitment on part of Indian Army and other security agencies towards maintaining peace and security in the region,” he said.

“Op ShivShakti is a major setback to nefarious designs of Pakistan sponsored terrorist organisations that are constantly abetting acts of terror in Jammu & Kashmir region,” the spokesperson said.

With the killing of these two terrorists, the security forces have eliminated 5 terrorists in two separate operations in J&K within a span of 3 days.

Earlier, the forces killed 3 Pakistani terrorists who were responsible for the massacre of 26 innocent civilians in Pahalgam in Kashmir on April 22.

The 3 terrorists were killed in an encounter in Dachigam area of Srinagar in Kashmir two days back. (NVI)
