J&K Police arrests 5 Drug Peddlers in Srinagar and Pulwama

Srinagar, Sep 1(NVI): Continuing its efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from the society, police have arrested five drug peddlers in Srinagar and Pulwama and recovered contraband/psychotropic substances.

In a statement issued here, in Srinagar, a police party from Police Station Shalteng at a checkpoint established at Sozeith Bund intercepted a vehicle (Swift) bearing registration number UK14TA-1714 with three persons on board who tried to flee from the spot but were apprehended tactfully by the alert police party.

“During search, 6.55 grams of Brown Sugar and 2.1Kgs of grinded Cannabis were recovered from their possession. They have been identified as Zubair Ahmad Sheikh son of late Gulzar Ahmad resident of Lawaypora, Rafiq Ahmad Mir son of Mohd Amin Mir and Shahid Ahmad Sheikh son of Mohd Akbar Sheikh both residents of Panzinara,” the statement said. “They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Shalteng where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime have also been seized.”

In another incident at Pulwama, a police party of Police Station Pulwama during naka checking at Gudoora Bridge intercepted a vehicle (Scorpio) bearing registration number JK13A-4513 with two persons on board. During checking, 70 bottles of liquor were recovered from their possession.

The statement said that they have been identified as Nazir Ahmad Thoker son of Ghulam Nabi Thoker resident of Gudoora Pulwama and Awtar Ghoslay son of Santa Ram Ghoslay resident of Akhola, Maharashtra. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station Pulwama where they remain in custody. Vehicle used in the commission of crime has also been seized.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective Police Stations and further investigation have been initiated.

“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112. People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” the statement said.(News Vibes of India)
