Udhampur (NVI): Lieutenant General YK Joshi on October 24, assumed the charge of Chief of Staff, Northern Command from Lt Gen SK Sharma at Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir .
After assuming the charge, Lt Gen Joshi and Lt Gen Sharma paid tributes to the martyrs at Dhruva Shahid Samarak, Udhampur, a statement said.
The Kargil war hero, has had command experience spanning the entire mosaic, covering all Theatres. He had commanded the 13 JAK RIF during Operations Vijay and Parakram. He was commissioned in this unit on June 12, 1982.
In Operation Vijay, the unit under his command was awarded 37 gallantry awards including two Param Vir Chakras, eight Vir Chakras and 14 Sena Medals.
The General Officer himself was awarded the Vir Chakra during his command of 13 JAK RIF in the operations. He had commanded an Infantry Brigade in Tangtse, Infantry Division in Karu and Corps in Leh besides also served as Director General, Infantry.
Lt Gen Joshi had tenures as Instructor at Infantry School, Mhow and varied staff exposures, including Defence Attache at Beijing (China)
