Srinagar: Achieving more success in counter-terror operations, security forces killed 3 terrorists overnight in two separate encounters in Kashmir, raising to 7 the number of terrorists eliminated in a span of 24 hours.
With these killings, the number of terrorists neutralised in Kashmir this year has gone up to 114, which includes 32 Pakistani terrorists, the police said.
Two terrorists were killed overnight in an encounter in Lolab area of Kupwara, which began yesterday afternoon and continued till this morning.
In this operation, 4 terrorists were killed in all, as 2, including a Pakistani, had been neutralised in the initial phase of the gun battle.
“02 more #terrorists including #terrorist Showkat got #neutralised (total 04). #Incriminating materials, arms & ammunition recovered. Search going on. Further details shall follow,” said a tweet by Kashmir Zone police early this morning.
Showkat, whose full name was Showkat Ahmed Sheikh and hailed from Lolab, was the terrorist who was arrested initially.
On the basis of information provided by him, the Police, along with the Army’s Rashtriya Rifles, yesterday launched a joint anti-terrorist operation in Lolab area.
“During search of hideouts, hiding #terrorists fired upon joint search parties and our team also retaliated, in which one #terrorist got killed,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted yesterday afternoon.
In a subsequent tweet, the police said the killed terrorist was identified as a Pakistani, linked with Pakistan-based terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
Showkat also got trapped in the encounter, the police said.
“2-3 more #terrorists alongwith arrested terrorist trapped in ongoing #encounter,” the tweet said, quoting IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar.
Giving an update later, the police said one more terrorist had been killed, raising to 2 the number of terrorists killed.
