Srinagar, Oct 20 (NVI): Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, after participating in the Kashmir Marathon, expressed his vision of elevating the event to international stature, hoping it would one day rival the world’s most renowned marathons.
He emphasized that the unique beauty and atmosphere of Jammu and Kashmir could attract global attention, making the marathon a significant event on the world stage.
“I hope that one day this marathon will be as famous as the world’s top marathons. I envision Jammu and Kashmir gaining recognition globally through such events,” Abdullah remarked.
Speaking to the media after the race, Abdullah commended the event’s organizers, the Tourism Department, and the people of Srinagar for their enthusiastic support, which he believes could propel the marathon to global fame.
“I didn’t expect to complete a half marathon, as I’ve never run more than 12 or 13 kilometers before,” Abdullah admitted. “But the collective energy and encouragement from the other participants and the people of Srinagar motivated me to finish the race.”
He extended congratulations to all the runners and thanked the organizers for a well-organized event. “The administration and the Tourism Department did an outstanding job, and the people of Srinagar turned out in full force to cheer on the participants. Their support was truly invaluable,” he added. (News Vibes of India)
