Srinagar, Aug 27 (NVI): Iltija Mufti, daughter of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, formally stepped into politics today as she filed her nomination papers for the upcoming Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.

The 32-year-old grand daughter of PDP founder and former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed filed her nomination papers from Bijbehara constituency, the traditional basion of her family.

“This day is very emotional for me as it marks the beginning of my political journey here, much like Mehbooba Ji and Mufti Saab. I am deeply honored,” she told reporters on the occasion.

Iltija has been indirectly associated with politics for a few years now as she has been functioning in the media wing of the PDP.

In fact, when her mother and former Chief Minister Mehbooba was put under detention following the revocation of Article 370 in 2019, Iltija had handled her social media handles to communicate to the world about her.

After filing her nomination papers, Iltija was asked to comment on recent remarks of Congress leader K C Venugopal that his party had formed an alliance with National Conference to “save the soul of Kashmir”.

“KC Venugopal is entitled to his opinion, but it is crucial for the party to unite at this time,” she said.

She added that “The PAGD (Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Declaration) was a vision of Mehbooba Mufti and it also vital for representing the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.” (NVI)
