New Delhi (NVI): Amid a sharp spike in Covid-19 cases, the Chhattisgarh government has announced a complete lockdown in Raipur from April 9.
The lockdown restrictions will remain in place till April 19 in the city. Furthermore, all the borders of the district will remain sealed during this period.
Earlier in the day, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel held a meeting with senior health officials to ensure adequate availability of hospital beds for Covid-19 patients in the state.
The decision comes in the light of a sharp spike in Covid-19 cases in the region within last few days. On Tuesday, the state had recorded 9,921 cases, the highest single-day spike since the outbreak of infection in March last year.
Till Tuesday, Chhattisgarh had reported 3,86,269 Covid-19 cases, including 4,416 deaths. As per the official figures, the number of active cases in the state stands at 52,445, while 3,29,408 patients have recovered.
