New Delhi, June 25 (NVI): Senior IPS officer Mahesh Dixit has been appointed as the new Director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB), the country’s premier internal intelligence agency.
A 1993-batch IPS officer of the Telangana cadre, Dixit has held several key assignments in the intelligence set-up during his career.
He earlier served as the head of the IB’s Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB) in Srinagar, overseeing intelligence operations across Jammu, Kashmir and Leh. During his tenure, he played a key role in intelligence coordination and internal security management in the aftermath of the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019.
Officials said Dixit focused on strengthening ground-level intelligence gathering and inter-agency coordination to address evolving security challenges in the region.
He will succeed the outgoing IB Director and is expected to assume charge shortly. His appointment comes at a time when strengthening internal security and intelligence coordination remains a key priority for the government.(NVI)
