Monsoon withdrawal to commence in NW India from Sept 1

New Delhi: The withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon is likely to be commenced in Northwest India from the first week of September.

According to India Meteorological Department, “The conditions are likely to become favourable for the commencement of withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from some parts of northwest India from September 1 to 7.”

The scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is likely over South Peninsula, East & Northeast India during most days of the week, IMD said in a statement.

Rainfall activity is likely to be below normal over northwest and central India. Rainfall activity is likely to be normal to above normal over the south Peninsula; near
normal over east and northeast India, it said.

As per IMD, “Fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very likely over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura during 27th-31st and over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya during the week.”

Fairly widespread to widespread light/moderate rainfall with isolated heavy falls and thunderstorm/lightning very likely over South Interior Karnataka on 26th, 30th & 31st; Kerala & Mahe during 26th- 31st and over Tamil Nadu during the week, the IMD said.

Isolated to scattered rainfall with thunderstorm likely to occur over the rest parts of the country during the week, it added.
