Fact check: No scholarship being offered to students by Ministry of Corporate Affairs

New Delhi (NVI): A post claiming that a website under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs is providing students with a scholarship up to Rs 1 lakh through National Scholarship Exam (NSE) has gone viral on social media, triggering confusion.

The post claims that ‘M&N platform under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs values the efforts of the students in their journey to attain knowledge and to help them and through National Scholarship Exam, the students will be rewarded with a cash scholarship up to 1 lakh.

However, no such announcement has been made by the government and the website making such claims is fake. The Ministry of Corporate Affairs is not conducting National Scholarship Exam to offer any scholarship.

Debunking the claims, Press Information Bureau (PIB) in a tweet wrote, ”Claim: A website stating to be working under Ministry of Corporate Affairs is claiming to reward students with scholarship up to 1 Lakh through National Scholarship Exam.

#PIBFactCheck: This website is #Fake. MCA is not conducting National Scholarship Exam to offer any scholarship.”

Earlier in June, a similar fake post claiming that the National scholarship portal is offering a scholarship of Rs 10,000 for college students had gone viral.

Govt allows use of hydrogen-enriched CNG as automotive fuel

New Delhi (NVI): In a step towards adopting alternative clean fuel for transportation, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has allowed use of hydrogen-enriched compressed natural gas (CNG) as an automobile fuel.

The ministry has been notifying various alternative fuel under Clean Fuels for sustainable transportation.

“Using H-CNG (18% mix of hydrogen) in certain CNG-engine were tested to understand the emission reduction using H-CNG as compared to ‘neat’ CNG,” the Ministry said in a statement.

It added, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has developed specifications of hydrogen enriched compressed natural gas (H-CNG) for automotive purposes as a fuel.

According to the reports, an ideal blend of 18 per cent hydrogen in CNG can be used as automotive fuel after compression. This can lower emissions, and promote green fuel for automobiles in the country. It can also reduce carbon monoxide emission by 70 per cent.

Earlier, a notification for amendments to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989, for inclusion of H-CNG as an automotive fuel has been published vide GSR 585 (E) dated September 25 by the ministry.

The draft rules in this respect were made available to the public on the July 22 last year and no objections and suggestions were received from the public in this respect, the statement said.

Gwalior-Morena flyover now open

New Delhi (NVI): The Gwalior-Morena flyover, connecting Dholpur in Rajasthan and Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh was today inaugurated by Union Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.

The 1.420 km flyover on NH-3 at Morena Town in Madhya Pradesh is worth Rs 108 crore. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan presided over the function, attended by Union Ministers Thavarchand Gehlot, Faggan Singh Kulaste, MoS-RTH Gen (Retd) VK Singh, local MPs, MLAs, senior officers from the centre and the State, the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways said in a statement.

The flyover has been completed within the scheduled 18 months’ period on EPC Mode. Total length of the 4-lane flyover structure is 780 metres, with 300 metre retaining wall approach towards Dholpur and 340 metre retaining wall approach towards Gwalior. The flyover has service road on both sides. The flyover will also decongest Morena city of crowded traffic which in turn save time and avoid fuel wastage, the ministry said.

Speaking on the occasion, Narendra Singh Tomar complimented the Union Transport and Highways minister Nitin Gadkari for quickly sanctioning this project and getting it completed within the scheduled time frame. He said, this stretch of road will go a long way in easing the traffic in this region.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said, outlined a number of development projects undertaken in the district.

Gen (Retd) V K Singh said, the government is concentrating on development facilitating convenience of the people. The present stretch is important as it is a major connectivity road in the region, he said, adding that this flyover will also help in mitigating accidents on this earlier black spot.

Greece reports first COVID-19 refugee death since pandemic outbreak

New Delhi (NVI): A 61-year-old man from Afghanistan died of COVID-19, the first reported death of a refugee from the deadly contagion in Greece since the pandemic began there in late February.

The man, a father of two children, lived at the migrant camp of Malakasa north of Athens, and died in hospital in Athens where he had been receiving treatment, according to media reports.

However, it was not immediately clear how long he had been at the hospital.

Reportedly, the Malakasa camp, which hosts about 3,000 migrants, has been quarantined since September 7 after positive tests for the new coronavirus.

Many other migrant facilities in Greece have been sealed off or movement has been restricted to stem the spread of the virus.

Greece has been the main gateway into the European Union for people fleeing conflict in the Middle East and beyond. More than a million people reached its shores from Turkey in 2015-16.

At least 110,000 people currently live in migrant facilities – 40,000 of them in overcrowded camps on five islands.

Since the start of the pandemic, 379 people have died of the virus in Greece while the number of positive cases reached 17,444.

New Delhi (NVI): The total number of coronavirus cases in India crossed the 6 million-mark today and reached 60,74,703, with another huge surge of 82,170 positive cases in the last 24 hours, according to Union Health Ministry data.

The country’s death toll has gone up to 95,542 after 1,039 new fatalities were reported in the country during this period.

In terms of total number of cases, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state with 13,39,232 coronavirus cases followed by Andhra Pradesh with 6,75,674 cases, Tamil Nadu with 5,80,808 positive cases.

New Delhi (NVI): The total coronavirus recoveries in India have crossed the 50-lakh mark and stands at 5,01,6521, crossing another milestone in the country, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.

Out of the total recoveries, 10 lakh recovered cases were registered in the past 11 days showing a steady rise in the number of recoveries.

“India’s total recoveries cross the landmark milestone of 50 lakh. The rise from 1 lakh in June ’20 has been steep. The last 10 lakh recoveries were added in just 11 days,” the Health Ministry tweeted.

The ministry also informed that recovered cases have outpaced active cases by over five times.

“India has witnessed a very high level of more than 90,000 recoveries every day recently. Recovered Cases have outpaced Active Cases by more than 5 times, the ministry tweeted.

In another tweet, the ministry said, “The commendable feat has been achieved through enhanced medical infrastructure, implementation of Standard Treatment Protocol, full dedication and commitment of doctors, paramedics and frontline workers.”

Earlier yesterday, 92,043 new recoveries were reported in the country out of which 76 percent of the new recovered cases are found in 10 States and UTs which include – Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Odisha, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Kerala, West Bengal.

Coronavirus cases surpassed 32.9 mn globally; death toll nears 1 mn

New Delhi (NVI): More than 32.9 million people around the world have been diagnosed with COVID-19 and nearly 1 million people have died, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. More than 22.8 million people have recovered from the disease.

In the US, the number of coronavirus infections have crossed 7.1 million while the death toll exceeded 2,04,000 in the country.

India’s confirmed coronavirus tally reached 6 million cases on Monday, keeping the country second to the United States in number of reported cases since the pandemic began.

Brazil’s coronavirus cases surged past 4.7 million meanwhile the number of fatalities mounted to 1,41,000.

South Korea on Monday reported 50 new coronavirus cases, the lowest since August 11. Of the new cases, 40 were domestic and 10 imported.

A man has died from Covid-19 in Greece, the first reported coronavirus death among asylum seekers since the pandemic broke out in Greece in late February.

New Zealand reported no new cases of Covid-19, health officials said on Monday. There are 55 active cases of the virus in New Zealand, 28 of them imported in travelers returning from overseas, all of whom are staying at government-run isolation facilities.

There have been a further 5,693 lab-confirmed coronavirus cases in the UK, according to government data, taking the total to 4,29,277.

Argentina’s coronavirus cases have topped 700,000 as new daily infections and deaths hit the top five globally, despite seven months of lockdown that have ravaged the frail economy.

New Delhi (NVI): India coronavirus tally has crossed the six million mark and stands at 60,74,703, with a single-day jump of 82,170 new cases in last 24 hours, Union Health Ministry said.

The country’s death toll has gone up to 95,542 with 1,039 new fatalities being reported during the same period.

So far, 5,01,6521 patients have recovered all over the country, while active cases stands at 9,62,640. With this, the recovery rate also improves further to 82.58 per cent.

In terms of total number of cases, Maharashtra continues to be the worst affected state with 13,39,232 coronavirus cases followed by Andhra Pradesh with 6,75,674 cases, Tamil Nadu with 5,80,808 positive cases.

The other worst affected states includes Karnataka (5,75,566), Uttar Pradesh (3,87,805) and Delhi (2,71,114).

In terms of fatalities, Maharashtra tops the tally with 35,571 deaths followed by Tamil Nadu 9,313, ministry said.

The death toll in the national capital surged to 5,235 while another 2,36,651 patients have recovered so far, healthy ministry data shows.

As per the Indian Council Medical Research (ICMR) data, a total 7,17,67,230 samples tested up to September 27 for COVID-19. Of these, 7,09,394 samples were tested yesterday.

Meanwhile, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain yesterday said the COVID-19 fatality rate in the national capital was less than one per cent in the last 10 days and asserted that a massive increase in testing for detection of coronavirus has led to the rise in cases.

PM pays tribute to Shaheed Bhagat Singh

New Delhi (NVI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid tributes to the great freedom fighter Shaheed Bhagat Singh on his 113th birth anniversary.

Taking to Twitter, PM Modi wrote, “A tribute to him on the birth anniversary of Amar Shaheed Bhagat Singh, the heroic son of Mother Bharati. His saga of valor and valor will continue to inspire the countrymen for ages.”

PM Modi also shared a brief video from his twitter account of one of his Mann ki Baat programmes in which he spoke about Bhagat Singh.

Bhagat Singh was born on September 28, 1907, in Faisalabad district of Punjab, India (now Pakistan), to a Sikh family deeply involved in political activities.

He quit school at the age of thirteen to devote his life to Indian independence. He was one of the most influential freedom fighters of the Indian independence movement, who gave his life for this cause.

Singh, who was hanged in the Lahore jail along with Shivaram Hari Rajguru and Sukhdev Thapar on March 23, 1931, left a strong impact during his lifetime.

J&K: 7 more Covid deaths, 1,141 fresh cases take tally to 72,190

Srinagar (NVI): Jammu and Kashmir today recorded seven more Covid-19 deaths and 1,141 fresh cases, taking the total number of coronavirus cases to 72,190 in Union Territory.

With fresh deaths, the total number of Covid fatalities in the UT has climbed to 1,132.

Of the total cases, 44,667 are from Kashmir and 27,523 from Jammu division. Officials said that among 1,141 fresh positive cases, 452 belong to Kashmir division while 689 are from Jammu division, adding that the total number of positive cases in Kashmir division has reached 44,667 including 36,108 recoveries and 823 deaths.

The total number of positive cases in Jammu division has reached to 27,523 including 16,751 recoveries and 309 deaths.

They said that the total number of active cases in J&K is 18,199 including 7,736 from Kashmir division and 10,463 from Jammu division.

With 1,365 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in the UT has reached 52,859 which is 73.22 percent of the total cases and was over 78 percent over three weeks back.

“Cases tested positive in J&K include 181 from Srinagar, 61 from Budgam, 34 from Baramulla, 35 from Pulwama, 30 from Anantnag, 33 from Bandipora, 45 from Kupwara, 12 from Ganderbal, 08 from Kulgam and 13 from Shopian in Kashmir division while as 689 from Jammu division include 324 from Jammu, 49 from Rajouri, 36 from Udhampur, 51 from Kathua, 41 from Doda, 38 from Samba, 46 from Poonch, 21 from Ramban, 39 from Reasi and 44 from Kishtwar,” read the Covid bulletin.

Pertinently, in the last 24 hours, seven persons who were tested positive for Covid-19 have died which include four from Kashmir division and three from Jammu division.

As per media bulletin, patients who have died include two from Srinagar and one from Baramulla and Kupwara in Kashmir division while as 3 from Jammu division include all three from Jammu district.

As per the daily information bulletin, 5,68,416 persons in J&K are under observation while 15,230 persons have been kept under home quarantine.

Besides that, 18,199 persons are in isolation. Apart from that, 4,82,774 persons have completed surveillance period and 51,081 persons are under home surveillance.

So far, results of 15,63,309 samples are available out of which 14,91,119 are available while 72,190 have tested positive. Among positive cases, 18,199 are active, 52,859 persons have recovered and 1,132 persons have died.
