IAF chopper makes emergency landing

New Delhi (NVI): An Indian Air Force Cheetah helicopter had to make an emergency landing on Eastern Peripheral Expressway in Haryana after it developed a technical snag, the Ministry of Defence said today.

The chopper was proceeding from Hindon to Halwara for a routine Air Force task, the ministry said in a statement. Approximately 14 NM out of Hindon, the helicopter developed technical snag and carried out precautionary landing on Eastern Peripheral Expressway, it added.

The Ministry said that the pilots took prompt and correct action and no damage to any property has been reported. “Recovery helicopter was launched immediately from Hindon. The helicopter was rectified and recovered back promptly and safely at Hindan,” the MoD said.

Coronavirus cases surpass 1.30 lakh in Bangladesh; 1,661 dead

New Delhi (NVI): As Bangladesh is witnessing a spurt in the number of coronavirus cases and deaths, 40 new fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours taking the total death toll to 1,661.

In addition to this, 3,868 new cases were also detected during this period, taking the total number of Covid-19 patients in the country to 1,30,474, according to United News of Bangladesh.

So far, 53,133 people have recovered in the country after 1,638 more patients were recovered during this period.

The detection rate of new patients has been recorded at 20.91 percent in the country.

Against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 40.72 percent and the mortality rate is 1.27 percent.

COVID-19 cases surpasses 30,400 in Afghanistan; death toll 638

New Delhi (NVI): The Afghan authorities confirmed 276 new coronavirus cases in Afghanistan in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 30,451, according to Afghan media reports.

The country’s Ministry of Public Health said, 10,306 people have been cured and discharged so far, while 638 died from the respiratory disease in Afghanistan.

Among the fresh cases, Kabul was on the top of the list with 71 new cases, followed by Herat with 27 positive cases.

Other provinces which reported fresh Covid-19 cases are Paktia (27), Takhar (25), Bamiyan (23), Kunduz (20), Balkh (17), Kandahar (12), Nangarhar (10), Laghman (8), Nimroz (7), Badakhshan (7), Jawzjan (7), Uruzgan (6), Kunar (3), Logar (2), Wardak (2), and Panjshir (2).

In past 24 hours, 8 people were reported to have died from deadly contagion. Among them four died in Herat, two in Paktia, one in Nangarhar, and one in Zabul (1).

Meanwhile, the ministry has also conducted 69,558 tests since February across the country.

Pakistan COVID-19 tally exceeds 1.95 lakh

COVID-19: Pakistan imposes mini-lockdown in Islamabad

New Delhi (NVI): Pakistan recorded its lowest single-day spike in coronavirus cases in about a month after 2,775 people tested positive for the infection, taking the national tally to 195,745.

Meanwhile, 59 people lost their lives due to the deadly contagion in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of fatalities to 3,962.

Looking at the breakdown of cases, Sindh province has reported 75,168 coronavirus cases, highest among all the provinces, while Punjab has 71,987 positive cases.

On the other hand, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has recorded 24,303 cases, Balochistan is at 9,946, Gilgit-Baltistan at 1,397, Islamabad at 11,981 and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir is at 962 cases so far, according to media reports.

The smart lockdown across Pakistan to combat the spread of COVID-19 has seen a drop in the number of infections and deaths in the country.

So far, nearly 84,168 people have recovered from the deadly contagion in the country after 4,283 recoveries were recorded in the last 24 hours.

Meanwhile, Pakistan government has sought the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) support to develop guidelines for the upcoming Eidul Azha when cattle markets are held across the country to sell animals for sacrifice.

COVID-19 patients in home isolation given pulse oximeters: Kejriwal

New Delhi (NVI): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today said that coronavirus patients in home isolation have been sent pulse oximeters to measure their oxygen levels while the ICU beds are being ramped up across the national capital for patients with serious complications.

While addressing a press conference Kejriwal said, “As promised, all the patients in home isolation have been provided with oximeters. It will act as ‘Suraksha Kawach’. Check your oxygen levels every 1-2 hours. If it drops below 94, call us and we will send the oxygen cylinder to your house. If required, you will be sent to the hospital.”

“Besides this, the situation is under control and there is no need to worry. I feel that in coming time more ICU beds will be required. They are being increased in the LNJP, GTB, Rajiv Gandhi hospital in large numbers for serious patients,” he added.

He further added, “There is adequate availability of beds for Covid-19 patients in the capital and claimed that the situation has been brought ‘under control’ by attaching hotels with hospitals.”

The Chief Minister said that plasma therapy will now be conducted on 200 more people. “LNGP and Rajiv Gandhi hospital have been allowed to conduct plasma therapy and so have some private hospitals.”

He said that since the start of plasma therapy at the LNJP hospital, the number of deaths have reduced to less than half as compared to earlier.

“It may be difficult to save very serious patients using plasma therapy, but it can help moderate patients by not letting their condition worsen,” Kejriwal added.

Meanwhile, Delhi witnessed a spike of 3,390 COVID-19 cases and 64 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total tally to 73,780.

Covid-19 cases in Nepal climb to 11,755; death toll at 27

New Delhi (NVI): With 593 new cases of the coronavirus infection confirmed today, Nepal’s COVID-19 tally has reached 11,755, according to local media reports.

The country’s Ministry of Health and Population said, 486 males and 107 females are among the newly infected people. In total, 10,506 males and 1,249 females have contracted the infection in Nepal.

In the past 24 hours, 48 people achieved recovery and were discharged form the hospitals, taking the tally of recovery cases to 2,698.

The respiratory disease has been spread across 76 districts of the country. Rasuwa in Bagmati Province is the only district where no case of the infection has been detected, the ministry stated.

So far, 2,06,271 sample tests have been performed in Nepal through the PCR, as per the reports.

Meanwhile, one more COVID-19 related deaths have been confirmed in Nepal by the health ministry today. With this, death-toll from coronavirus infection in the country has reached 27.

Mild to medium colour blind people will be able to obtain driving license now

New Delhi (NVI): The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a notification for amendment to physical fitness and medical requirements under the Motor Vehicle Act to get a driving license, that will allow persons with mild to medium colour blindness in obtaining the DL.

The ministry has been taking many measures to enable divyangjan (persons with disabilities) citizens to avail transport-related services, especially related to obtaining the Driving Licence, read an official statement.

It was brought to the notice of the ministry that the colour blind citizens were not being able to get the driving licence although they are able to perform all functions properly except identifying colours. the matter was sympathetically examined consulting the medical experts.

The issue was taken up with Medical Expert Institution and advice was sought.

The recommendations then received were to allow mild to medium colour blind citizens to be allowed to drive and put restrictions only on the severe colour blind citizens from driving.

This provision is also allowed in other parts of the world, the ministry added.

Army has not been called in to run Covid-19 facilities in Delhi: MHA on Reuters’ claim

New Delhi (NVI): The Central Government today issued a clarification regarding a Reuters news report claiming that India has called in Army to run Covid-19 facilities in Delhi as cases surge.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has denied the report by the UK-based news agency, saying that “this news is far from reality” and only medical personnel of Armed Forces & CAPF have been asked to assist at some medical facilities in Delhi.

The news published on Wednesday had claimed that the Government of India has called in Army to manage new Covid-19 treatment centers in Delhi with thousands of additional hospital beds.

The Spokesperson, MHA, took to Twitter and wrote, “Reuters headline says “India calls in Army to run facilities in Delhi as cases surge. This news is far away from reality.

“Note: Army has not been called in, only medical personnel of Armed Forces & CAPF have been asked to assist at some medical facilities in Delhi.”

The Reuters news report referred to the temporary Covid care treatment centre set up at the Radha Soami Beas premises in south Delhi and the railway coaches converted into Covid wards. It claimed that these were among the facilities which will be handled by the Army.

“These include a 10,000-bed facility hosted at a religious centre and railway coaches turned into wards,” the report said.

J&K: 3 terrorists killed as encounter ends in Pulwama’s Tral

Srinagar (NVI): Three terrorists were killed at the end of a 24-hour long gun-battle that broke out yesterday in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district, police said today.

Acting on a tip-off, joint teams of security forces had laid a siege in Chewa-Ullar village in Tral yesterday.

“After initial exchange of firing, militants kept on changing their location. The area being congested prompted the security forces to launch a very deliberate operation to prevent any collateral damage,” a police officer said, adding that militants were also given a chance to surrender but they refused and instead fired, triggering an encounter.

“This morning, operation resumed and after a heavy exchange of fire from both sides, all three militants were killed,” said a police officer.

Defence spokesman in Srinagar, Colonel Rajesh Kalia said that three militants have been killed and arms and ammunition recovered. “Search operation is in progress,” said Colonel Kalia. The authorities had also snapped internet services in police division Awantipore yesterday, as a precautionary measure to prevent any law and order issue.

Today’s encounter was the 12th in South Kashmir in month of June in which so far 33 militants have been killed. With the killing of three militants in today’s encounter, the total number of militants killed this year has reached to 111 which include top commanders of Hizbul Mujahideen, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Muhammad.

As per official records, Hizbul Mujahideen has borne the maximum brunt of anti-militancy operations in South Kashmir this year. The outfit has lost 55 of its men alone while Lashkar and Jaish have lost 20 each. The other slain militants belonged to Ansaar Gazwatul Hind and Albadr.

Guwahati to go into total lockdown for 2 weeks from Monday

New Delhi (NVI): The Assam government today decided to impose a total lockdown in Guwahati for 14 days from the midnight of June 28 in view of the rising coronavirus cases.

In addition to this, the state government has also decided to impose night curfew and twice-a-week lockdown in all urban and semi-urban places across the state with immediate effect.

State’s Health Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma today said while addressing a virtual press briefing that, “The COVID-19 cases in Guwahati have been increasing exponentially. Since June 15, we have recorded 676 cases of community transmission. We have thus decided to impose total lockdown in the city from June 28 midnight till July 12.”

“For the first seven days, only pharmacies and hospitals will be open. Everything else will be shut. Grocery shops and vegetable markets would remain closed too,” Sarma added.

He further added, “The administration and police have been told to ensure a strict lockdown. We will assess the situation next Friday and take a call on relaxations, if needed.”

The movement of vehicles in the city would be monitored during the lockdown period and no vehicle — private or commercial — would be allowed to enter or exit. “Anyone willing to leave the city should do so by Saturday,” the Health Minister stated.

The city has recorded over 700 new infections since June 15, which prompted the state to take the decision. Of 276 fresh infections reported in Assam on Thursday, 133 were from Guwahati, according to the data.
