Pakistan imposes new ‘black law’ in so-called ‘Azad J&K’, starts crackdown on free speech

A copy of new 'black' law imposed by Pakistan on PoJK being burnt at a protest in Rawalakot

Muzaffarabad (Pakistan-occupied J&K), Nov 18 (NVI) In yet another move to crush the people of the parts of Jammu and Kashmir under its illegal occupation, Pakistan has started a spree of arrests of local political and social leaders after imposing a new Ordinance in the so-called ‘Azad Kashmir’.

The wanton arrests have ignited anger among the locals who vowed today to fight tooth and nail against such acts of “terrorism” by the State of Pakistan.

Trouble has been brewing over the last few days after Pakistan issued a new law titled ‘Peaceful Assembly and Public Ordinance’, which snatches from locals all the fundamental rights, including the right to protest.

Imposition of this Ordinance triggered protests in Rawalakot and some other key towns of Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, with protesters burning copies of the “black law”.

The protesters, while declaring that this law will not be acceptable to the people of PoJK, chanted slogans like ‘yeh jo dehshatgardi hai, iske peeche vardi hai (It is the uniform which is behind this terrorism).

After the protests, the Pakistani forces swooped down upon those leading the agitation and took them into custody.

Shaukat Nawaz Mir, a key leader of the ‘Azad Jammu Kashmir Joint Action Committee’, condemned the spree of arrests following protests against the ‘black law’.

He said such a law is not acceptable as it seeks to silence the people of PoJK and snatch their rights.

The Ordinance is aimed at stopping people of POJK from being together and collective but its objective will fail, he asserted.

Demanding immediate release of those arrested, Mir said the Joint Action Committee will hold its emergency meeting in Rawalakot tomorrow where some big and major decisions are likely to be taken.

Meanwhile, Pakistan has rushed in tens of thousands of military personnel to various parts of PoJK, adding to the anger among the locals.

Balochistan: BLA says it killed 29 Pakistani soldiers, injured 10 in Kalat military camp attack

Quetta: Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), which carried out a major attack on a Pakistani military camp in Kalat district of occupied Balochistan two days back, has claimed to have killed 29 enemy soldiers and injured 10 in the assault during which it occupied the premises for several hours.

Earlier, the Pakistani military had said 7 soldiers were killed and 18 injured in the attack, keeping in with its tradition of concealing or suppressing the casualties in the military during such incidents.

“On November 16, Baloch Liberation Army fighters attacked a main camp of the occupying Pakistani army in the Johan area of Kalat.

“At least 29 personnel of the enemy army were eliminated, and the camp, along with the enemy’s arms and ammunition, was captured,” said its spokesman Jeeyand Baloch in a statement to News Vibes of India (NVI).

He said the fighters of BLA’s vanguard unit, the ‘Fateh Squad’, targeted the camp of the 61 Wing of the occupying Pakistan Army in the Shah Mardan area of Johan, located 60 km from Kalat city, on the night of November 15 and 16.

The Fateh Squad launched an attack on the enemy’s main camp and outposts from three sides around 9:00 p.m, the spokesman said.

“The Fateh Squad managed to capture three outposts of the occupying army in this frantic attack, which continued until 1:00 a.m. By cutting off communication with the main camp, the squad continued to attack it successively,” he said.

“In total, at least 29 enemy army personnel were eliminated in the attack, while several army personnel threw away their weapons and fled in their customary cowardice, taking advantage of the darkness and leaving three outposts empty,” Jeeyand Baloch said.

More than ten enemy army personnel were injured, he added.

The freedom fighters seized a large number of weapons and ammunition from the enemy army and transferred them to the armoury of the BLA, the spokesman said.

He said a fighter of the Fateh Squad, Shahzeb Satakzai alias Gurk, was martyred while fighting face-to-face with the enemy army for hours.

Martyr Sangat Shahzeb Satakzai belonged to the Les Dagrhi area of Quetta and had been associated with the Baloch National Liberation Movement since 2018, the spokesman said.

Before moving to the mountain front, he performed his national duties as an urban guerrilla in Quetta, Jeeyand Baloch said.

“Sangat Shahzeb Satakzai, alias Gurk, played an important role in defeating the enemy army in several battles on the Kalat front. He was a very patient, sincere, and friendly comrade. He possessed godlike combat skills, especially in ambush tactics. The Baloch Liberation Army pays tribute to Sangat Shahzeb Satakzai for attaining the status of martyrdom,” the statement said.

Rest of the Fateh Squad of the Baloch Liberation Army returned safely to their headquarters after achieving the objectives of this attack, it said.

“Baloch Liberation Army will continue its recent series of intense and large-scale attacks on the enemy forces, gradually intensifying them,” it declared.

Smart Meter fiddling easily detectable, generates alert : KPDCL

NVI Correspondent

Srinagar, Nov 18 (NVI): Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) today issued a stern advisory to its consumers to remain vigilant against certain gangs operating in Srinagar city and outskirts, which are offering their ‘services’ to tamper smart meters by quoting a price.

KPDCL’s Central Inspection Squad has recently caught several consumers with tampered smart meters and during investigation, consumers have divulged names of a few operatives, which shall be shared with J&K Police so that the larger gangs involved are busted and criminals brought to justice.

Sharing details, a KPDCL spokesperson stated that real time data flows from smart meters to Data Centre with tamper alerts, if any, giving Discom an edge to pinpoint malpractices. “No tampering is full-proof and Discom’s Head End System easily detects fiddling with internal circuitry of the smart meter and exposes attempts by the consumer to reduce consumption,” he explained.

Warning consumers of strict action under the Electricity Act, the spokesman said Central Inspection Squad of KPDCL has detected some incidents of smart meter tampering and fiddling with internal circuity by consumers through these gangs in Mehjoornagar, Watalkadal, Hawal, Firdousabad, Batmaloo, Dalgate, Baghat, Zainakote and Rajbagh localities in Srinagar city as well as Sopore Town in Baramulla District. “All these tampered smart meters have been confiscated and notices served to the consumers for recovery of energy illegally consumed,” he added.

KPDCL has issued directions to all Circle Heads to constitute special squads to check smart meters for tampering. “Meanwhile, KPDCL is examining the low consumption profiles of smart metered consumers at its Data Centre, to check and verify if any attempt has been made to tamper the meter to record low consumption,”

In order to create enough deterrence against tampering of smart meters, KPDCL spokesman said FIRs also stand lodged in various Police Stations by the concerned SDOs of Electric Subdivisions.   (News Vibes of India)
