Probe ordered into alleged medical negligence leading to patient’s death in Kupwara

Srinagar, Dec 10 (NVI): The administration has initiated a formal inquiry into allegations of medical negligence following the death of Abdul Hamid Sofi, son of Gh Rasool Sofi, a resident of Arampora, Drugmullar, at the District hospital Handwara in Kupwara district.

The tragic incident gained widespread attention after it was highlighted on social media, prompting public outcry and demands for accountability. In response, authorities swiftly issued an official order to form a dedicated inquiry committee tasked with uncovering the truth behind the incident.

The inquiry is being spearheaded by the Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR) of Kupwara. The investigation team also includes Dr. Mubashir, MD Physician from Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Sogam, and Dr. Gulzar, MS General Surgery from SDH Kupwara. Together, they are expected to thoroughly review the circumstances surrounding the patient’s death.

The official order directs the committee to submit a detailed report, including actionable recommendations, within seven days. The Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Handwara has been instructed to fully cooperate with the investigation to ensure transparency and impartiality throughout the process.

Police seize drug peddler’s vehicle in Anti-Narcotics Drive in Awantipora

Srinagar, Dec 10 (NVI): In a decisive action against drug trafficking, Police seized a four-wheeler valued at approximately Rs 3.30 lakhs owned by a notorious drug peddler, Jitender Singh son of Nirmal Singh, a resident of Gamraj Tral.

The seizure was made under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act, 1985 in Awantipora in Pulwama district.

The vehicle was identified as illegally acquired property during an investigation led by the SHO of Police Station Tral under the supervision of SDPO Tral. It was confirmed that the vehicle had been purchased through proceeds from narcotics trafficking.

Jitender Singh is already implicated in two cases under the NDPS Act—FIR No. 28/2024 registered at PS Tral and FIR No. 139/2021 registered at PS Awantipora.

This operation underscores the police’s unwavering commitment to eradicating the drug menace in the area. The local community has widely praised the initiative, lauding the authorities for targeting the assets of drug peddlers and ensuring justice is served. (News Vibes of India)

Indian Navy gets boost with latest multi-role stealth-guided missile frigate

NS Tushil (F 70), latest multi-role stealth guided missile frigate, commissioned into Indian Navy in presence of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Russia

New Delhi, Dec 10 (NVI) The Indian Navy has a received fresh boost of power with NS Tushil (F 70), the latest multi-role stealth-guided missile frigate, being commissioned into it.

INS Tushil is an upgraded Krivak III class frigates, six of which are already in service of the Indian Navy.

It is the seventh in the series and the first of the two upgraded additional follow-on ships, the contract for which was signed in October 2016 between Russia’s JSC Rosoboronexport, Indian Navy and the Government of India.

The ship has successfully carried out firing trials of all her Russian weapon systems and would reach India in near combat-ready condition, said a statement issued by the Defence Ministry after the commissioning ceremony attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh in Kaliningrad in Russia.

INS Tushil is designed for blue water operations across the spectrum of naval warfare in all four dimensions air, surface, underwater and electromagnetic.

It is armed with a range of advanced weapons, including the jointly-developed Brahmos supersonic cruise missiles, vertically-launched Shtil Surface-to-Air Missiles with enhanced ranges, upgraded medium-range anti-air and surface gun with advanced stealth features, optically-controlled close-range rapid fire gun system, anti-submarine torpedoes and rockets and advanced electronic warfare and communication suite.

The ship is also capable of embarking the upgraded anti-submarine and airborne early warning helicopters, the Kamov 28 and Kamov 31, which are formidable force multipliers in themselves.

The ship is powered by an advanced gas turbine propulsion plant with state-of-the-art controls and is capable of achieving speeds in excess of 30 knots.

High degree of automation and stealth features further enhance its combat capability and survivability.

The ship’s keel was laid on July 12, 2013 and was launched in water in October 2021.

The ship sailed out for her maiden sea trials on January 25, 2024, and completed an exhaustive schedule of Factory trials followed by State Committee Trials and finally the Delivery Acceptance Trials, both in harbour and at sea, by September 24, 2024.

After Omar, Farooq advocates humanitarian approach for Rohingya Refugees

Calling it India’s moral obligation to provide basic necessities such as water and electricity, Abdullah remarked, “The Government of India sent the refugees here.” His words appeared to shift accountability for the refugees’ presence to the central government, pressing it to assume responsibility for their care.”

The Rohingya, a stateless Muslim minority from Myanmar, have endured years of persecution and violence, driving thousands to seek refuge in neighboring countries, including India. While their suffering has drawn global sympathy, their presence in India—particularly in the sensitive region of Jammu and Kashmir—has sparked fierce political and social debates.

BJP argues that the Rohingya pose security risks, alleging links to extremist groups and illegal immigration networks. Others raise concerns about the potential strain on local resources and the disruption of demographic balances. These apprehensions have led to calls for their deportation, despite limited clarity on how such actions align with international norms or India’s diplomatic relations with Myanmar.

Srinagar freezes at -5.4°C as temperatures drop across J&K, Ladakh

Srinagar, Dec 10(NVI): The Kashmir Valley experienced bone-chilling temperatures today with Srinagar recording a low of -5.4°C, marking the season’s coldest night so far.

Several areas in the valley dipped even further below freezing, reflecting the intensifying grip of winter.

In Kashmir region, some of the coldest spots included Sonamarg, which recorded a biting -9.7°C, followed closely by Shopian at -8.5°C, and Pahalgam at -8.4°C. Other notable lows were observed in Anantnag (-7.9°C), Budgam (-6.4°C), and Pulwama (-8.3°C), while Ganderbal (-5.2°C) and Kupwara (-4.5°C) also reported freezing conditions.

In Jammu region, comparatively warmer but varied temperatures were observed. Jammu city recorded 5.4°C, while Katra followed closely with 5.6°C. However, colder areas like Padder plunged to -7.7°C, with Bhaderwah (-3.4°C) and Samba (0.3°C) also experiencing sharp drops.

In Ladakh, the harsh winter was evident as Leh shivered at -13.2°C, while Kargil was not far behind at -12.4°C, making it one of the coldest regions.

The falling temperatures across the region reflect the deepening of winter, with further drops likely as December progresses. Residents are advised to stay warm and cautious during this intense cold wave. (News Vibes of India)

J&K Govt orders reshuffle in Civil Administration, Transfers 19 Officers

Srinagar, Dec 09(NVI): The Jammu and Kashmir government today ordered a significant reshuffle in civil administration, transferring 19 officers to new positions.

The new appointments include Dr. Ghulam Nabi Itoo, previously Mission Director of Jal Jeevan Mission, who has been appointed Director of School Education, Kashmir. Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari has been appointed Joint Director of Information, Kashmir.

Other prominent changes involve Mehmood Ahmad Shah, who moves from Director of Handloom and Handicrafts to Managing Director of the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation, and Mussarat-ul-Islam, who takes over as Director of Handloom and Handicrafts. Several other officials have been reassigned to key roles in departments such as Tourism, Housing, Urban Development, and Education, as well as in the J&K Special Tribunal and State Taxes.

Soldier dies in landmine blast at Poonch, GoC , LG pay tributes

Jammu, Dec 09 (NVI): A soldier died in a landmine blast at Thanedar Tekri in Poonch district of Jammu, officials said today.

As per official sources the Army’s white Knight corps paid tributes to Havildar V Subbaiah Varikunta, a braveheart of 25 RR who was martyred in Poonch district of Jammu.

In a solemn tribute, the GOC White Knight Corps and all ranks paid their respects to the fallen soldier, acknowledging his supreme courage in protecting the nation. The respect and admiration for Havildar Varikunta’s service were echoed by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha also.

Can’t treat Rohingya Refugees as animals as long as they are in Jammu: Omar Abdullah

Jammu, Dec 09(NVI) : Jammu and Kashmir’s Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said the issue of Rohingyas in Jammu is more of a human than political ad these people can’t be treated as animals as long as they are in Jammu.

Speaking to reporters in Jammu, Omar expressed strong disapproval of any inhumane treatment towards the Rohingya refugees, stating, “As long as they are in Jammu, we cannot abandon them or treat them like animals.”

He made it clear that the central government must decide their future, noting that the Jammu and Kashmir government did not bring them to the Jammu. “Let Centre take a call whether these people need to be deported or kept in Jammu only,” he said.

Omar’s remarks highlight the humanitarian dimensions of the issue, calling for a compassionate response to the plight of those who fled persecution in Myanmar.

The issue has become increasingly contentious, with the Jammu and Kashmir BJP raising concerns about the settlement of the Rohingyas. BJP spokesman Sunil Sethi demanded a CBI investigation into the role of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in facilitating the settlement process. BJP demands CBI probe into NGO’s role in settlement of Rohingyas, Bangladeshis in Jammu

Srinagar, Dec 9 (NVI): The Jammu and Kashmir BJP has demanded a CBI probe thorough investigation into the alleged involvement of certain NGOs in facilitating the illegal settlement of Rohingyas and Bangladeshi nationals in the Jammu region.

BJP chief spokesman Sunil Sethi voiced serious concerns about the issue, describing it as a potential threat to the Jammu’s security and demographic integrity.

Sethi stated, “The settlement of Rohingyas and Bangladeshi nationals in Jammu is a deliberate attempt to change the demographic character of the region. It is alarming that some organizations, under the pretense of humanitarian work, are actively aiding this process. Such activities cannot be ignored as they have significant security implications.”

He further added, “There are credible inputs suggesting the role of certain NGOs in providing logistical and financial support to these illegal immigrants. These settlements have been strategically placed in sensitive areas, which raises questions about their intent and long-term impact. We demand a high-level probe by CBI into the matter to expose the nexus and hold those responsible accountable.”

The BJP leader also criticized successive governments and agencies for turning a blind eye to the issue in the past. “This is not a new problem; it has been festering for years due to negligence and a lack of decisive action. However, the BJP will not allow this to continue. The time has come to identify and deport all illegal immigrants from the region to ensure the safety and rights of our people,” Sethi asserted.

The BJP has urged the government to act swiftly, conduct a comprehensive investigation and implement measures to prevent further illegal immigration. “We will not compromise on the security of Jammu and Kashmir. Jammu has already suffered enough and any attempt to destabilize it further will be met with strong opposition,” Sethi warned- (News Vibes of India)
